Footage shows attacked a bus during the taxi strike carnage in Cape Town, South Africa, on August 11.

At least five people were killed and dozens more injured in the chaos following the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) announcing a one-week provincial shutdown. The strike quickly turned to violence and widespread looting.

The Archbishop of South Africa's Cape Town Archdiocese, Stephen Brislin, condemned the unlawful behaviour.

He said: 'We urge all those who are abusing the taxi strikes to engage in any dangerous, anti-democratic activity to desist from such activity immediately and engage in constructive and legal action.'
