Social media agency owner Ellie (23) and HGV mechanic and motorsport eCommerce owner Lloyd (27) are motorsport enthusiasts who found love and decided to buy two flats in the Swansea Valley, Wales, and knock them back into one big house.

They decided to do a lot of the work themselves to save money and their impressive DIY skills quickly earned them more than 100,000 followers on social media.

The greatest success is their main bathroom which has floor-to-ceiling marble tiles, a lovingly-restored original fireplace behind the bath, and a shower you could probably wash an elephant in.

In a video, Ellie explains how they first had to rip out all of the kitchen units themselves.

They noticed an “arch-shaped crack” in the render and when they chipped away at it they were treated to a gorgeous feature fireplace that would become the focal point of the room.

It was a painstaking effort to get it looking beautiful, needing cleaning with tools, a wire brush, and then repointing the brickwork.

But it paid off and their followers were staggered by how luxurious their bathroom looks – with everything except the plumbing carried out by Ellie and Lloyd themselves.

“How unbelievable is that bathroom,” commented one.

“The fireplace behind the bath is honestly one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen,” said someone else.

Another fan wrote: “A fireplace in a bathroom is honestly top tier. It looks absolutely amazing.”

“We love natural textures and love the cosy vibe that the wood effect units give off,” said Ellie.

“People seem to absolutely love our fireplace in the bathroom – it's a very unique feature to have in this room and it's just unexpected.

“When we discovered the fireplace, we knew we had to make this the feature and everything else just seemed to follow suit.”

Ellie said the best thing about taking on such an ambitious project is that when it is finished it will be entirely her and Lloyd's own creation.

“We knew with whatever house we bought, that we would put our own stamp on it – we definitely didn't want to buy somewhere we could just move into.

“Our non-negotiables were: detached, spacious garden, and off road parking.

“This one ticked all the boxes – the only issue was that it was split into two flats!

“We did a lot of research before making our offer, talking to the council about the possibility of converting it back into one house, learning about all of the hoops we have to jump through, talking to building control etc.”

Ellie said if people have an idea they love for their home, they should just go for it.

“We're firm believers in ‘if you love it, you're always going to love it’”, she said.
