STORYLINE:
France is bracing for a scorching heat wave this week, likely the most intense of the summer. Many areas in the south-east are on high alert for extreme heat.
Lyon is expected to be the hottest spot, with temperatures expected to soar up to 40 degrees Celsius by the weekend. The heat wave will expand to cover most of the country from Thursday and last for several days.
The worst of the heat wave will be felt between Friday and Sunday. The nights will be warm and uncomfortable, with temperatures staying above 20 degrees Celsius.
