Did you get drunk? Did you get drunk? Is this bird the breath-holding champion of the world?

Chiming Wedgebills (Psophodes occidentalis) inhabit semi-arid Acacia-dominated shrublands through the central west of Australia through to the western edge of Queensland. Male Chiming Wedgebills make a penetrating, sweet but monotonous “did you get drunk” call that is a distinctive sound of outback Australia. They are more often heard than seen because their drab brown plumage blends well with their habitat, and they are shy, diving into cover as soon as they spot an intruder. This male Chiming Wedgebill was perching near a temporary claypan, calling continuously, only occasionally pausing for a breath. Bushflies may be heard on the soundtrack.
