An angler was found dead after being eaten by a crocodile in the Kaubun River, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, Friday morning (18/8/2023). Before being found dead, the victim was last seen washing his hands in the river before being attacked by a crocodile.

The joint search and rescue team from the Balikpapan Basarnas and local residents finally succeeded in finding the victim, known as Sukmana, 46 years old.

Before being found by the joint search team, the victim, who was washing his hands at the time, was declared missing after his leg was eaten by a crocodile and he was immediately dragged into the bottom of the river in Bumi Jaya Village, Kaubun District, East Kutai Regency.

At 08.18 WITA, the victim was finally found dead, 20 meters downstream from the location where the victim was last seen.

Head of Operations for the Balikpapan Basarnas, Basrie, said the victim was successfully evacuated at around 8:25 a.m. 20 meters from the location where the victim was last seen. Furthermore, the victim's body was immediately evacuated to the Kaubun health center while waiting for the family.
