Rescue volunteers saved a dog that had its head jammed in a metal bucket while looking for food.

The crew were called to a neighbourhood in Samut Songkhram some 55 miles southwest of Bangkok when residents spotted the injured pooch wandering with the object on its head on August 14.

Footage shows Sawagbenjatham Foundation personnel surrounding the filthy canine in a wooded area near homes. They restrained the frightened animal, which thrashed around when they grabbed it, and carefully pulled the metal box from its head.

The hapless dog was bleeding when it cut its mouth on a jagged edge of the bucket. It was seen walking away after being freed.

Resident Rungthip Jojoo, 56, said: 'I found the dog near a forest in the morning. My neighbours and I tried to take the bucket off ourselves, but we were afraid of being bitten, so we called the rescue team for help.'

She added the dog likely stuck its head in the bucket because it smelled food, but was unable to free itself.
