STORYLINE:

A U.S. expert has said the 15th BRICS summit due to be held in Johannesburg next week will be a message of peace, harmony and development.

William Jones, Washington bureau chief of U.S. publication Executive Intelligence Review, said the BRICS is playing a much more important role in the world economy, and it represents potentially the developing world, the global majority.

SOUNDBITE (English): WILLIAM JONES, Washington bureau chief of U.S. publication Executive Intelligence Review
"The BRICS now is becoming one of the most important elements for economic development worldwide. Over the past few decades, you haven't had much going on in places like Africa, Asia, aside from the fact that the BRICS countries, including China with its Belt and Road Initiative, has started a new wave of economic development.
Well just look at the figures of international trade and investment, that the BRICS are playing a much more important role, a much bigger role in the world economy than at any time before. It has been a stabilizing role for the developing world in spite of the fact that we have a major financial crisis ongoing here in the United States, in the international markets. And I think that shows that the world now is in a different situation now because of the development of organizations like BRICS.
I think the development of the BRICS Summit now is tremendous. It really represents potentially, the developing world, the Global South. The Global South is the global majority. It will mean development for the rest of the world, because the BRICS countries then have their own economic ties with the lesser developed countries in Africa and elsewhere.
The world is now moving in a different direction. It is the tune of the Global South that we will be hearing at the BRICS conference, not the warmongering of the G7 or of the NATO group. This will be a message of peace. It will be a message of harmony, and it will be a message of development."
