STORYLINE:

Israel allocated about one billion shekels (nearly 264 million U.S. dollars) for the optimization of public transportation in East Jerusalem on Sunday, the Israeli Ministry of Transport and Road Safety said in a statement.

As part of a five-year plan approved by the Israeli government for the development of East Jerusalem, the project includes the completion of the Eastern Ring Road, which crosses the eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem from north to south, and the establishment of other roads in East Jerusalem, particularly to schools, interchanges and bus terminals, while increasing bus frequency, adding bus stops and integrating information technology into public transport systems.

This plan continues the investment plan approved by the cabinet in 2018 and mainly focuses on improving conditions of East Jerusalem in infrastructure, education, employment, welfare and the environment.
