Pilot rescued when small plane crashes into the sea in Florida
Florida deputies rushed to a pilot's rescue after he suddenly lost control of his plane and crashed at sea.
The pilot Joseph Barney, 40, was rescued around three miles off-coast the island of Sawyer Key on August 13.
Officers with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded and with the help of the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission they were able to safely pull the pilot out of the water.
Officials said there were no life-threatening injuries reported.
Deputy Trevor Pike transported Barney to waiting paramedics at Venture Out Resort on Cudjoe Key.
Police said the sunken aircraft was an Aero Commander 500. Federal aviation authorities are investigating the crash.
