Crowd flees as office building engulfs in flames in China
Panic ensued when flames were seen billowing from the exterior wall of a 29-storey skyscraper in northern China.
Video filmed in Tianjin City on August 22 shows dozens of people running out of a building with thick smoke rising into the air.
No sooner had the alarm been raised, the Tianjin Fire and Rescue Brigade immediately sprang into action. With a colossal response, 23 fire stations were mobilised along with the full-service command units from both Nankai and Heping brigades.
A massive contingent of 284 firefighters and 62 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene to combat the flames, marking a swift and coordinated effort on the part of the emergency services.
A mere three minutes after the alert, the district fire and rescue units, as well as the brigade command units, arrived at the scene.
On closer investigation, the building identified in distress was the New World Tower, an office building boasting 27 above-ground floors and an additional 2 subterranean levels.
Come 4:00 pm, fire teams reported that the flames enveloping the building's external insulation layer had been completely extinguished.
There have been no reported injuries or fatalities.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
