A wildfire has turned the sky red as it encroaches on Alexandroupolis, a city in northeastern Greece.

Footage captured on August 22 shows the Alexandroupolis Metropolita Church Foundation bells ringing as the inferno rages on a hill in the background.

Officials said that 65 patients at the University Hospital of Alexandroupolis had been evacuated onto a ferry.

The flames approached the grounds of the university hospital and many of those evacuated were taken to a ferry in the nearby port. Among those moved were newborn babies and intensive care patients.

Meanwhile, more Evros settlements were told to evacuate as fire rages - Church bells in Avas village northern of the city of Alexandroupolis, started ringing to mark the evacuation order as the wildfire engulfed the village during the night.
