Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) cameras in Cheam, South West London were seen with stickers obscuring the lenses, days ahead of the planned expansion of the scheme to cover all of the capital's boroughs (August 22).

The Metropolitan Police are currently investigating just under 300 incidents of damage and theft of ULEZ cameras as anger rises about the scheme.

Activists labelled the equipment as 'ULEZ spy cameras', as they continue to protest in local areas covered by the upcoming change.

Spearheaded by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, ULEZ aims to improve air quality for residents.
Opponents argue pollution is not an issue for outlying areas and hit the less well-off financially the hardest - with even Extinction Rebellion co-founder Roger Hallam publicly criticising the expansion.

Motorists in non-compliant vehicles will be required to pay a £12.50 daily after 29th August.
