This is the shocking moment a car crashed into a shop when the driver's daughter grabbed the steering wheel.

The female driver was visiting a construction materials store in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on August 19 when her three-year-old child suddenly reached for the wheel from behind and veered it sharply to the left.

The mum stepped on the accelerator out of shock, crashing into another car that was sent crashing into a noodle shop.

Dramatic CCTV footage shows staff leaping out of the way as the out-of-control vehicle careened toward the roadside stall.

Locals found the terrified driver in tears inside the damaged pickup truck while cradling her daughter. They were treated for minor injuries.

Store owner Aticha Chumpla, 33, said: 'While I was selling noodles, I heard a loud bang. I turned to look at the road and saw a car approaching. At that time, I didn't think, and I just jumped away instinctively. I would have been struck by the car if I hadn't.'

Local police said the female driver has been charged with recklessly causing property damage and will be summoned to discuss compensation for the stall's damages.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
