This is the heartwarming moment a puppy covered in thick black tar was rescued by a kind passer-by in Thailand.

The hapless brown pooch was alone when it was discovered by resident Jing Jai Suwanjunee and her son on a construction site near their home in Satun province on July 28.

Footage shows the exhausted dog stretched across thr ground where it had wandered into the sticky substance overflowing from a nearby vat.

Jing carefully loosened the dog from the tar and took him home, where she gave him a cooking oil bath to clean off the tar. The family nicknamed the dog 'Sticky'.

She said: ‘I took my son Nong Copter to see the big machines at the construction site. He was fond of trucks. But then we saw the puppy and decided to help.'

At home, the good Samaritan then rubbed off the smelly chemical with bare hands to remove it faster.

After at least three oil baths, she was able to clear most of the tar from the pooch's body, although some of it was still visibly staining its fur. She then kept the dog as a free-range pet to wander freely around her garden.

Jing added: ‘There were not many people who passed by that area. The puppy was very fortunate that I had to take my son for a walk, or who knows what could have happened to it. We will let the dog stay in our house and care for it.'
