A road was left destroyed after Tropical Storm Hilary's torrential downpours - and an earthquake - hit California.

The road in Thousand Palms, collapsed on one side with a vehicle left abandoned after getting stuck in the rocky bank.

Hilary made its way through the USA's west coast leaving parts of California flooded - while a 5.0 magnitude earthquake rocked the state.

Thai McWilliams, 45, was taking a friend home at the time after looking for hurricane damage to film when he came across it.

It's unclear whether the damage was caused by the tropical storm or the earthquake - or both.

Thai said: "Part of the road fell off and sunk eight feet where a pickup went off where there was a road. "

"Nobody was injured that I could see."

The footage was captured on August 21.
