A police officer wrangled an 8ft snake that had escaped from its cage in Texas.

Officer Steve Burres responded to the call when a woman notified the Irving Police Department of the massive serpent blocking her from reaching her car on August 22.

The cop, who has had experience catching other snakes, arrived at the scene to deal with the runaway reptile.

Bodycam footage shows Officer Burres calmly handling the snake, which he described as 'beautiful' with 'an ungodly amount of teeth.' He kept it from fleeing as he waited to hand it over to Irving Animal Services.

Police later learned that the snake was a pet named 'Miss Bonnie' that had slithered out of its home.

The owner has agreed to surrender Miss Bonnie to the local wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary as it was illegal to own snakes over six feet long in the city.

The Irving Police Department wrote in a statement: 'Our officers have many hidden talents. Officer Burres is our snake whisperer. His hidden talent is handling any wildlife call that may come our way, especially the snake calls. He's captured numerous snakes in places they shouldn't have been. In this instance, a call came in that someone couldn't get into their car because of this mighty snake. Ms. Bonnie slithered away from home but was luckily found and safely picked up by Irving Animal Services.'
