STORYLINE:

Eleven envoys from eight countries, including Oman, Surinam, Papua New Guinea, Somalia and Peru, are given a closer look at China's fishery industry at the invitation of the Chinese government.

The five-day tour starting from Tuesday is being held in east China's Fujian Province.

These diplomats have learned about marine environmental protection and fishery industry development in China during their visit to Ningde City, known for its advanced technology in breeding large yellow croakers in the country.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): NASSER AL BUSAIDI, Oman's Ambassador to China
"I think Oman really needs these kinds of projects. I hope agricultural enterprises in Oman come to China and Chinese enterprises to visit Oman."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JORGE DIAZ, Commercial counsellor of Embassy of Ecuador in China
"In Ecuador, we have shrimp and actually we export shrimp, but we don't have this kind of processing machine. So that's why it's really important to know how it's processed and maybe do something in Ecuador as well."

In Ningde's fishing village of Xipi, the envoys have witnessed the improvement of the lives of local fishermen.

By relocating local fishermen who lived on boats to cozy houses on the shore, Xipi Village has embarked upon a distinctive path of rural vitalization.

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): RUBEN ENOCH, Charge d'affaires of Embassy of Papua New Guinea in China
"It's an amazing history about how the people have been moved from living on the water back to the land. It's something interesting and good progress about China's development and how China was able to alleviate people from living in poverty, and it is a great history of it."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): JONATHAN NUNEZ, Commercial counsellor of Embassy of Panama in China
"We are looking forward to cooperating with China and learning a bit more about aquaculture and maybe expanding a little bit of projects in Panama."
