This is the heartstopping moment a huge piece of concrete dropped from a monorail bridge - narrowly missing a motorcycle rider waiting below.

The man in a yellow rain jacket was just inches away from being flatted by the heavy item when it plunged from 40ft above in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 23.

He calmly stepped of his bike and dragged the item out of the road to avoid others having any accidents, before then continuing his journey.

Onlooker Vorathamon Trithipcharoenchai said the concrete was from the BTS Sky Train which runs overhead, transporting passengers around the sprawling city.

Vorathamon said: 'A huge object dropped unexpectedly from the sky in a vertical direction. It almost hit a man on a motorbike who was a foot away waiting to cross the junction.

'The incident occurred in the heart of Bangkok. Later, the police investigated and reported that the debris found was a piece of Bangkok Sky Train structure.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
