A Good Samaritan gave a thirsty rattlesnake water to drink after 52 days straight of 100 Fahrenheit temperatures.

Corey Keppel-Kolb was walking through Sabino Canyon, Arizona, USA, on August 7 when he spotted a snake curled up on the side of the path.

Heartwarming footage – which has been viewed more than 580,000 times – shows the 38-year-old gently pouring water from his bottle onto the rattlesnake, which initially pulled away.

However, after 52 days of high temperatures and no rain for months, the snake gladly accepted something to drink and even used its body to catch the liquid so it could quench its thirst.

Corey said: “It’s always a good feeling when you can be in the right place at the right time.

“Snakes are so adaptable that they don't often need help but when it’s been that long of a heat wave and with no rain for months, I know it’s been hard for them too.

“At first the snake started to uncurl to slither away but once it realised it was water it curled right back up and caught something to drink.

“I was there for about five minutes and then actually went back to refill my water about a quarter of a mile away and came back with more.

“I was there for another five minutes and then went on my way. We'd been in a drought longer than the heat wave.

“I was out for a hike and saw the snake along the trail. It was 101f that afternoon and the 52 of 53 consecutive days over 100F.

“I had a 10oz bottle of water that I ended up filling up twice. A lot of the water poured off the snake, so it didn't drink all that water though.”
