Brave neighbours saved a girl dangling from a sixth-floor window in southern China.

Video filmed in Chongqing on August 25 shows a 3-year-old girl getting her head trapped in between the security bars of a window on a 6th-floor balcony.

The child's distressing cries for help drew the attention of Zhao Xiaolin and Ou Shiping, who were casually having tea at the time. Racing towards the sound, they were met with the terrifying sight of the youngster hanging perilously. The child, writhing and crying desperately, added urgency to their mission.

Without a second thought, the two men sprinted up to the sixth floor. In a death-defying move and with Ou's help, Zhao climbed out from the window next door to the child, gripping the bars tightly with one hand, his feet treading on a rain-soaked canopy. With no safety precautions and the drizzle making everything slick, onlookers below watched with their hearts in their mouths.

On the ground level, 60-year-old Chen Tianlun made a brave ascent, scaling the security bars from the first floor, using nothing but his bare hands. Meanwhile, quick-thinking residents below stretched out a tarp to serve as a makeshift safety net for both the child and the rescuers. Others promptly dialled the emergency number.

Around five minutes later, with sweat and rain mixing, Zhao managed to reach the trapped child. Holding onto the bars with one hand and using his other hand and a leg, he supported the little girl's weight, providing some relief. Her faint cries indicated she was still conscious, much to everyone's relief.

By this point, exhaustion was setting in for Zhao. It became increasingly difficult for him to keep holding the child up. That's when Chen, having scaled the building, reached them. Together, the two men strained every muscle, pushing the toddler upwards.

Offering soothing words and encouragement, they eventually managed to guide the toddler back to the safety of her balcony. Both Chen and Zhao then climbed back into the apartment through a neighbouring window, concluding the daring rescue.

Post-incident, it emerged that on the day of the incident, the child had been left alone while her parents went out shopping. This lapse led to the toddler's adventurous climb and the ensuing mishap.

Thankfully, the child was unscathed after her terrifying ordeal. Grateful family members profusely thanked the brave neighbours who jumped into action, ensuring a happy ending to a potentially tragic situation.
