Tens of hectares of rice farming land in the capital region (IKN) is dry to the point of cracking
amid the current long drought conditions, rice farmers around the new National Capital or IKN area, can still harvest even though the results are considered unsatisfactory.
The reason is, under normal conditions, farmers in the area can produce at least 8 tonnes of grain for one hectare of rice fields. However, with the current prolonged drought conditions, the farmers' yields have decreased drastically, which is estimated to only reach 6 tons of grain per one hectare of paddy fields.
"Still can harvest, but the results are not satisfactory. About 8 tons if this is one hectare, but with drought conditions like this it's only 6 tons," he added.
Not only that, the impact of this long drought has also affected the quality of the grain harvested by farmers. The reason is, due to the lack of water supply, the quality of the grain has decreased, which will affect the selling price of grain at the collector level.
"There's a lack of water, so the quality is decreasing," he concluded.
Meanwhile, during this long dry season, farmers around the IKN area plan to postpone the rice planting season until the dry season ends.
