Hurricane Idalia slammed into a pier and caused severe flooding as it moved inland through Florida on Wednesday.

The storm wreaked havoc in Florida's Big Bend region, crashing ashore as a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds reaching 125 miles per hour on August 30.

Footage shows water swamping roads following storm surges and rain that hit the area overnight.

US Coast Guards (USCG) surveyed the damage caused by Idalia in Fort Myers Beach and a pier in Cortez. The local community were urged to stay off the water while the situation was being assessed, the USCG said.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said there were no deaths reported from the hurricane, which has weakened to a tropical storm while moving over Georgia.
