STORYLINE:

A high-level dialogue on green transition was held in Perth, Australia on Wednesday, with the participation of nearly 200 delegates from various sectors and countries. The event, organized by the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), focused on the theme of "Clean Energy Drives Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific."

Zhou Xiaochuan, BFA Vice Chairman, along with former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and other prominent speakers, explored the reasons why clean energy is essential for the future of the Asia-Pacific region. They also shared their views on the challenges and opportunities that the transition entails. Experts and scholars from different industries also contributed their insights to the discussion.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): DAI QUANHE, General manager of International Business Unit of CRRC Zhuzhou Institute
"From the current point of view, the development of clean energy in the Asia-Pacific region is very rapid and promising. The wind power, photovoltaic, green hydrogen, pumped storage, as well as energy storage, are all in huge demand in this region."

As one of the world's largest and fastest-growing players in renewable energy supply, China was also believed by some conferees to have the strength of making examples "where others can learn from and gain confidence to do it themselves."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ANDREW FORREST, Executive chairman and founder of Fortescue Metals Group
"I'm a huge supporter of the steps that China has taken to beautifully lead the technology, the automated robotic manufacturing of the machines the world needs, just to capture the sun, the wind and put it into all the energy that we will ever need to power humanity forever.
Going to China will get very high technology, will get great automation, great robotics, will get the machines we need to quickly produce, the machines which will end global warming."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): MICHAEL GOODSITE, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Energy Futures) of the University of Adelaide
"China, as it has friends across the Asia-Pacific region, can help make examples where others can learn from and gain confidence to do themselves, and show that there's a success story in growth and prosperity without harming the environment even more.
People are always afraid of change a little bit. And I think that the real opportunity for leaders like China is to show that you can actually make the transition in a way that people actually improve their lives, and the environment is not harmed more.
I think China has the capacity, expertise and capability to do that, together with other first movers."
