A monsoon rainstorm knocked over a 100ft radio tower in Thailand.

Heavy rain and high winds struck Ang Thong province on August 31, blowing the structure down next to a Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck.

The tower is owned by the local disaster prevention and mitigation authority.

Amnuay Kanprom, head of the organisation, said the storm had been battering the area when he heard a loud bang. He went outside to check and found that the radio tower, previously attached to the rooftop, had landed on the road.

There were no injuries reported.

Pitchet Boonnarod, the owner of the truck, said that he had parked his vehicle after collecting his son from school. While inside the truck taking shelter from the rain, he was jolted by a noise. He said he initially thought it was an exploded tire, but later found the fallen radio tower nearby.

Pitchet said he has notified his insurance company, and called local authorities to inform them of the damage.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
