Around noon, winds were quite calm, despite the Hong Kong Observatory raising the alarm signal to level 8. People visited the famed Avenue of Stars, took selfies and walked about despite the predictions of the typhoon making a direct route for Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Observatory did not exclude raising the alarm level to 10, its highest level, later in the day.
