A deserted alley in Bangkok has been decorated with street art to help boost tourism in the area.

The walkways on either side of Khlong Ong Ang canal used to be covered with unsightly metal sheets where vendors sold secondhand electronics until it was renovated by local authorities in 2015.

But when the shops were gone, the area was empty of people until the beautification project by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) finally revived the area.

Footage shows murals depicting everyday scenes in the Bangkok capital, such as vendors holding colourful rugs, traditional snacks at food stalls, various modern graffiti and others.

Aside from having awesome walls, the walking street holds performances for buskers, kayaking activities, and food bazaars at night.

BMA official Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said: ‘The organisation decided to turn the deserted alley into an artist alley. We hope to attract tourists with our new walking street.'
