Caffeine lovers can sip coffee while hanging out with monitor lizards at this unusual cafe in Thailand.

The Tua Ngern Tua Thong Cafe in Bangkok's Soi Bang Kradi 43 area quickly became a popular selfie spot among locals and tourists for its unique look.

Footage shows the lizards wandering around open spaces in the pond-surrounded compound with large stone sculptures of scaly reptile limbs displayed in different spots on August 21.

Customers can enter the 3.84-hectare property for a 50 baht (1.13 GBP) entry fee, which is redeemable as a discount on the store's menu.

Among the beverages offered are various coffee, milk, tea-based drinks, smoothies, and Italian sodas. The cafe's signature concoctions are Bangkradi Coffee, Coffee Coconut Milk, and Butter Beer.

There are also savoury options such as the German Pork Knuckle Set, grilled pork neck, and spicy glass noodles salad.

Outside the cafe, Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite, sometimes carrying harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
