A man home-brewing his own kombucha in Spain was surprised when one batch had a very big surprise inside.

On opening one jar he found its SCOBY had almost outgrown the jar it was being stored in due to warm weather conditions.

The SCOBY, or “symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast", is an active component in the fermentation of kombucha.

The filmer commented: "I love to make my own kombucha as it is so healthy and good for you. I left this batch for a few months and as the temperature has been warm the SCOBY grew quickly and huge!

"Take a look at it as I remove it from the container. It looks disgusting but every last bit of the drink is so good for your gut biome and can also help with your immune system and mental health! Lots of people are grossed out by this but I say enjoy! And have a healthy lifestyle."
