Unidentified object descends over observatory in China
An unidentified object was observed plummeting from the sky in eastern China.
The video was filmed in the city of Jinan in Shandong Province on September 1.
The object ascended to a certain altitude before abruptly changing course in mid-air, eventually forming a distinctive angle with the ground before rapidly descending.
Remarkably, the video captures this descent without any accompanying sounds, save for the nighttime chorus of insects. Even the secretary-general of the Jinan Astronomical Society, Niu Guihua, who was present at the Qixingtai Observatory with colleagues at the time, reported not hearing any noise associated with the object's fall.
Niu Guihua further noted, "It's not an insect; flying insects can't move at such speed!" Based on the perspective from the video, it's inferred that the object approached from a distance, possibly hundreds of metres away from the surveillance camera.
Preliminary assessments have ruled out common astronomical phenomena such as meteors or meteorite impacts based on the trajectory of the object's fall.
Following the incident, observatory staff ascended the hill to search for any traces of the fallen object. As of now, no evidence of the impact has been located.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
