More than 7000 women gathered in south India on August 30th to attempt a world record of traditional dance.

The dancers were from a women's organisation named Kudumbashree performed the traditional Thiruvathirakali dance at a field in the Kuttanellur Government College in Thrissur, Kerala.

It was reported a total of 7027 women participated in this aiming for a world record for the highest number of participants in a Thiruvathirakali dance performance.

The organisers are now considering submitting the entry to the Guinness Book of World Records.

More than 7,000 women, from a women's organisation named Kudumbashree got together to create a world record when they performed the traditional Thiruvathirakali dance in southern India's Kerala.

This happened at a field in the Kuttanellur Government College in Thrissur on August 30.

Visuals showed the stunning performance by the group of the women in the field. They had gathered around and formed circles that expanded all across the field. Their dance movements were beautifully co-ordinated and the performance was extremely impressive. As per a report, a total of 7027 women participated in this which led to the creation of a world record for the highest number of participants in a dance performance. They have ensured a spot for themselves in the Limca Book of World Records and also the Talent World Records.

Also, this 10-minute dance performance was part of Onam celebrations by the Department of Tourism Thrissur District Administration of Kerala. The previous record for most number of participants in a dance performance was 6582.

The ceremony began when the lamp was lit by Kerala revenue minister K Rajan. MK Varghese, the mayor of Thrissur corporation then presided over. Other dignitaries like PK Davis, Master President District Panchayat (Thrissur), Krishna Teja, District Collector Anitha Beegum IPS, DIG of Police, (Thrissur Range), Ankit Asok, IPS City Police Commissioner Thrissur, Syamala Venugopal, Division Councilor Thrissur Corporation and Dr Kavitha, A Kudumbashree District Mission Cordinator are participated in the meeting.

The record was set under the watchful eyes of Raj Ahammed Bashir Sayyid, the editor of the Talent Book of World Records, the state president of All Guinness World Record Holders Kerala. All the dancers who participated in this record-breaking performance, were given numbers and they passed through a specially designed entrance, led by Rakshita Jain and Shareef, the Talent Book of World Records officials. Dr Kavitha, the Kudumbashree District Mission Coordinator brought the entire staff to the Tiruvathirakkali venue to prepare and work for this ceremony for two weeks at a stretch.

The organisers are now considering submitting the entry to the Guinness Book of World Records.
