Baby frog born with six legs baffles locals in northern Thailand
This unusual frog born with six legs has become an unlikely attraction - with superstitious locals worshipping it for good luck.
The mutant amphibian, now four months old, was born in frog breeder Taweesak's farm in Phayao, Thailand.
The shocked owner said the creature has an extra set of 'mermaid's tail feet' protruding from its side. It was among more than 50 tadpoles he was taking care of in an artificial pond.
Despite its strange appearance, the creature was not hampered by the extra pair of limbs and has able to hop around like normal.
Taweesak said he intends to keep the frog until it dies, believing it would bring him good luck. Superstitious residents are now visiting his farm regularly, hoping to be blessed by the mystical amphibian.
Taweesak said: 'I will give extra care to this frog because it has six legs. I believe it is a sign of good luck that will bring fortune to me.
'People from the village have also made offerings to the frog. They believe it is a good sign.'
The frog's extra legs are believed to have been caused by a genetic mutation. It can live a healthy life with the extra limbs but it in the wild it would be vulnerable to predators as moving around quickly is more difficult.
