On September 2, 2023, Berliners made a bold statement in favor of climate action, choosing music and dance as their tools of protest. Thousands of clubbers, climate activists, and local residents gathered in the Friedrichshain district of eastern Berlin in Germany to block a kilometer-long stretch of a main road. With the blessing of Berlin authorities, local nightclubs transformed the roadway into an impromptu outdoor dancefloor, complete with smoke machines, glitter balls, and drinks stands. A @bikeberlin13 captured a video showing people demonstrating out of a certain building. Their message was clear: they aimed to prevent the extension of the A100 motorway, which threatened to cut through this vibrant urban neighborhood and destroy some of Berlin's most beloved nightclubs.
