A farmer in Tirupathur, Tamil Nadu, dumped 5 tonnes of okra into a lake after the price of the vegetable had decreased over the past few weeks.

Ramesh is seen cutting open dozens of bags containing the vegetable.

He claimed that the current price of okra means it isn't profitable to pick, package or transport his product to market.

Ramesh, grows Okra (Ladies finger)in his area and sells it to nearby markets and even sends it to nearby state also.

In this situation, because of the fall in the price of Okra in the past few weeks, he can't gain profits he even was forced to spend money from his pocket for plucking and packing. So he dumped about 5 tons of Okra into the lake

Ramesh informed about this that at present the price of amaranth has fallen so much that it is not possible to sell it in any market.

And if the traders do not buy amaranth from the farmers due to the fall in amaranth price. He also said due to this he lost one lakh rupees.
