A bridge collapsed under the torrential rains unleashed by Typhoon Haikui in southern China.

CCTV footage filmed in the city of Putian in Fujian Province on September 5, shows swelling river waters engulfing a bridge, causing it to crumble.

The bridge served as a key access route for the residents of Yuta Village, Lishan Town. A village official shared that the calamity struck around 9 pm, but fortunately, no vehicles or pedestrians were on the bridge at the time.

The structure, lovingly rebuilt in 1985 by philanthropist Lin Binghuang, leaves local villagers facing a transport inconvenience, though they have the option of detouring via alternate bridges, adding a mere kilometer or two to their journeys.

The meteorological bureau of Xianyou County escalated the storm warning from an orange alert to a more severe red alert on the evening of September 5 due to the intense rainfall brought on by Typhoon Haikui.

The aftermath of the storm saw schools, kindergartens, and training institutions across Putian City closing their doors on September 6.

事发时的监控视频显示，桥在河水暴涨的情况下，突然整体被冲垮。桥的那一头岸边还有车辆，疑似刚刚从桥上通过。
据了解，该桥梁是鲤南镇玉塔村村民进出县城城区的一座重要通道。玉塔村一名村干部介绍，桥是晚上9点多被水冲垮的，万幸的是当时桥上没有车辆和行人。他表示，该桥梁是1985年由爱心人士林炳煌捐资重建，桥梁被冲垮对附近村民交通造成不便，但村民暂时可以从上游或者下游的其他桥绕行，绕行距离约一两公里。
受台风“海葵”影响，仙游县9月5日迎来强降雨。仙游县气象台9月05日18时44分将暴雨橙色预警信号升级为暴雨红色预警信号。
受暴雨影响，9月6日莆田全市中小学校（含中职学校）、幼儿园、培训机构停课、停学一天。仙游县防汛抗旱指挥部9月5日晚发布《致全县人民的一封信》，倡议非必要人不出门、车不上路。
