This is the chaotic moment an unruly wild elephant chased visitors through a car park in Thailand.

Footage shows the jumbo trundling through the parking lot, sending tourists fleeing at the Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima province on April 2.

Visitors stayed clear of the wild animal as staff from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation led it back into the forest.

The Khao Yai National Park is one of Thailand's many elephant sanctuaries, where tourists can view the creatures in their natural habitat.

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
