"This year's Global Development Report has been released in Beijing."
With the theme of "Global Development at a Historic Crossroads," the Global Development Report 2023 comprehensively analyses the current situation of global development and its main trends.
It focuses on the urgent challenges faced by all countries in the world, especially developing countries, to accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda.
More than 80 representatives from 20 countries and regions have joined the press conference both online and offline.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): JEREMY RIFKIN, President of the Foundation on Economic Trends
"It's a great report. It's very granular. It lays out the whole history of how we come to where we are today."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ARKEBE OQUBAY, Former Ethiopian minister and special advisor to the Prime Minister
"An important report at this critical time."
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): FRED DUBEE, Former deputy director of the Administration Office of the UN Secretary-General
"The new world development report, a tremendous undertaking, a tremendous success."
Experts at the meeting praised the release of the report and affirmed China's efforts for global development.
SOUNDBITE 4 (English): JORGEN RANDERS, Professor Emeritus, BI Norwegian Business School
"I was very happy about the launch of the Global Development Report 2023 for two reasons. First of all, it does treat exactly the right questions, the global challenges of today, which is poverty, climate change, biodiversity destruction. And then secondly, it signals the willingness and ability of China to do something about these things, both domestically and importantly, outside China."
SOUNDBITE 5 (English): SAMBANIAINA VICTOR, First Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of Madagascar in China
"The Global Development Initiative is welcomed by the international community because it provides new insights, new perspectives, new approach on the development, and because of its inclusiveness."
SOUNDBITE 6 (English): KNUT ARILD THONSTAD, Counsellor Development, Norwegian Embassy in China
"There are several crises in the world. It's important to have a focus on how to bring more positive development that has been highlighted here today.
Global cooperation is important and I think global cooperation when it comes to development, and maybe especially when it comes to environmental issues, not only to climate, but also to biodiversity and pollution. So it's important that these issues are raised again and again. And they're raised also in this report and that is very positive."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Beijing.
