A helmet saved a scooter rider from severe injuries after a five-metre-long steel pipe collision in southern China.

The terrifying moment was filmed in Ganzhou City in Jiangxi Province on August 25.

Investigations reveal the duo weren't on the pedestrian crossing, and their irregular handling posed a risk. The scooter rider, Ms Zhong, suffered face and neck injuries but her helmet reduced the damage.

The workers and their employer are now liable for compensation.

8月25日8时18分许，江西赣州，两名施工工人一前一后共抬着一根5米多长的钢管，出现会昌县新天地路段。他们由东往西横跨通过道路，这时路上一名骑车的女子由北往南经过，未能注意到两人抬着过街的钢管，迎头撞上，随后连车摔倒在地。
经会昌交警调查认定，事发时搬运管材的工人陈某、潘某未在人行横道上行走，而且搬运物品的方式不规范，没有确保公共道路安全，明显对其他车辆构成安全隐患，由此引发事故，应负全部责任。
经医院检查，骑车女子钟某脸部颈部有受伤，其佩戴的安全头盔减少了事故伤害。后期处理中，事故损害赔偿由抬管工人及其雇主共同承担。
