Frantic shoppers stocked up on food and essentials as Super Typhoon Saola edged closer to Hong Kong.

The locals rushed to buy supplies at a supermarket as they hunkered down for the powerful storm on August 31.

Footage shows the residents crowding the store's aisles and forming long queues, their baskets and trolleys filled with groceries.

The Hong Kong Observatory raised the T10 signal - the city's most severe storm warning - on September 1, then downgraded it to signal 8 the following morning.

Super Typhoon Saola spawned heavy rain and flood in Hong Kong, before slamming into Guangdong province in China's southern coast on September 2.
