Security guards worked together to catch a wild monitor lizard that was hiding in a family's garden.

The three housing complex security guard were seemingly nervous while searching for the reptile with their flash lights and sticks until one of them dragged it from behind the water tank in Samut Sakhon province, Thailand, on August 6.

CCTV footage shows the man running while pulling the lizard by its tail before spinning around to keep the 4ft-long animal away from him.

His colleagues looked stunned for a moment while the shocked mother was heard screaming in the background.

After almost a minute, the three security guards finally pinned it down with a stick and evacuated it from the property. They released it into a nearby canal.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
