A lucky fisherman hooked a massive shark during competition which then dragged his paddleboard through the ocean.

Eddie Carroll was fishing in the Long Island Sound, Connecticut, USA, on August 27 when he felt what he thought was a huge blue fish pull his line.

Frightening footage shows the 30-year-old reel what turned out to be a 10-foot-long brown shark right up next to his board.

With its huge dorsal fin piercing through the water’s surface, Eddie can be heard saying ‘I’m hooked into by far the biggest thing I’ve ever had on the line’.

Eddie said: “The shark took almost all of my line and was dragging me effortlessly with small anchor down. It pulled me almost to the middle of the Long Island sound.

“I knew it was close though tired so I got my phone out to document it before cutting the line as close to the hook as possible.

“I wish I could have removed the hook but it was too big of a risk to get that close to its teeth. It’s very rare to come across a shark like this around here.

“The shark was around 10-feet-long. My paddleboard is 12 feet and it was nearly as big as that.

“From the time of hooking the shark to cutting the line, it was longer than an hour ordeal. After about 20 minutes, the sustained power was incredible.

“Once I gained back some line I pulled my anchor, put my head down, and knew I was in for a ride until the fish was tired out.”
