This is the heart-stopping moment a large tree branch fell onto a road in front of drivers during a rainstorm in Thailand.

Driver Nawaphon was travelling along a highway in Tak province in the north of the country amid heavy rain when the branch snapped off of a tree onto the roadside on September 5.

Dashcam footage shows the leafy branch collapsing and blocking a lane on the road just a few feet away from shocked Nawaphon.

No one was injured as the lane was empty at the time.

Nawaphon said: 'I was surprised because the branch fell right as I was passing by. I'm lucky it didn't hit me.'

The Thai Meteorological Department on September 4 warned of torrential rains across the country. Residents, especially those in low-lying areas, were urged to be vigilant of flash floods and forest run-off.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
