STORYLINE:
An event of the "Global Insights into Chinese Enterprises" series was held Thursday in east China's Xiamen, offering a platform for Chinese shipping companies to showcase their advantages and seek cooperation.
Diplomats attending the event expressed hope to further expand cooperation with China, believing that the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative has brought broad development opportunities.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): FACUNDO FERNANDEZ GUERRA, Acting Consul General of Uruguay in Guangzhou
"I think that the Belt and Road Initiative is highly important not only for my country, but for the cooperation, the international cooperation itself. So we are really committed to this initiative that we believe this is one of the biggest initiatives of this century. So the Belt and Road Initiative will promote trade, will promote cooperation between countries, and it's a way to cooperate between China and Latin America. China is our first commercial partner, so we have a lot of external exchanges, most of them in agriculture. And we are really happy with the current flux of trade that we have, but we want to diversify those sectors. I think that we have a lot to learn about the development of new technologies in China. So we have a lot of cooperation possibilities."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JAIME FLORCRUZ, Philippine Ambassador to China
"The BRI is a very important platform for the Philippines, like many other members of the program. We seek to benefit from the BRI because our four priorities of our government include infrastructure and of course also agriculture, connectivity, exchanges. So BRI fits perfectly into our nation-building initiatives and objectives. So we hope to benefit from BRI in terms of investments, in terms of projects like bridges, roads, ports, and of course the digital infrastructure as well. We are interested in technology transfer, but also knowledge transfer. We hope to learn from China's experience the good practices here. We hope to also train our people, especially our youth, our students to come to China and learn the technology from China."
