STORYLINE:

The eighth edition of Zagreb Burger Festival opened on Friday. This event, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, will last 10 days and host 20 food outlets with burgers and other specialties prepared by Croatia's best chefs.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ZRINKA FERINA, Spokesperson of the festival
"Each year, during the ten days, around 150,000 people come and visit the burger festival. This year is one of the largest. We have 20 stalls here for the visitors to see and try one of the most extravagant burgers in Croatia. We have some top chefs, we have one Michellin chef, we have one chef that is in the jury of MasterChef."

This year, for the first time, brioche buns are made and baked in front of the guests at the site.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): KARLO VULIN, Owner of "Booogie Lab" burger stall
"Here we produce 100 percent naturally fermented buns, so they are fermented with wild yeast and bacteria. That is a much, much more complicated process, but the benefits are numerous, they are much easier to digest."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): PAUL BARDBURY, British visitor
"The one thing I would say about Croatian food is I love it. I think it is fantastic. It is the taste. In Manchester, tomatoes grow in supermarkets 24 hours a day, and in Croatia you only get fruit and vegetables at that time of year in the season, and the taste is absolutely amazing."
