Footage showcases a majestic grey whale mother swimming alongside her playful calf off the coast of Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Newsflare member fiandti11 used a drone to captured the aerial shots and a GoPro to film the close-up footage with the marine mammals.

They said: "A baby grey whale plays with the mother while a third adult watches from a close distance. Every year thousands of grey whales migrate from their feeding grounds in the Arctic Sea to the warmer waters of a few secluded bays in Baja California Sur, Mexico, where they mate and, 11 months later, give birth to a single calf.

"During the first 2 to 4 months of life, the newborn is jealously guarded by mommy whale, but around March-April the protective maternal instinct gives way to a desire to interact with human beings, a behaviour thought to be unique in the animal kingdom."
