STORYLINE:
Five people were killed, and 25 others were injured after a truck crashed into a crowd of people gathering for a funeral prayer in southern Turkish Kahramanmaras province, the state-run TRT broadcaster reported Saturday.
The truck traveling along the Kahramanmaras-Andirin highway crashed into cars first and then dashed into the crowd due to a brake failure, the TRT reported.
Medical teams were dispatched to the scene of the incident.
According to Governor of Kahramanmaras Province Mukerrem Unluer, some of the injured were in critical conditions.
Türkiye has a poor record of road safety. According to official data, a total of 5,229 people lost their lives in more than 197,000 traffic accidents last year.
