Aggressive wild monkeys attacked cars stuck in a queue of slow-moving traffic.

Footage shows the macaques jumping on roofs of pickup trucks while the vehicles were stopped waiting for the train to pass in front of a Khmer temple in Lopburi province, Thailand, on September 5.

One of the animals climbed up a silver truck and fiddled with the rope on top of it.

Driver Naruemon Sawiyyah, who was behind, said: ‘These Lopburi monkeys are too much. While waiting for the train to pass, they came and pulled whatever they could off the cars. Someone came to chase and attack them, but they fought.'

Lopburi has become a popular tourist destination because of its large population of monkeys. The monkeys are mostly long-tailed macaques, and they can be found all over the city, from the temples to the streets.

However, they can also be aggressive and have been known to steal food and belongings.

The 13th-century Phra Prang Sam Yot temple seen in the video was built by the King Jayavarman VII of the Khmer Empire, in what is now modern-day Cambodia.

Khmer society moved further south for maritime trade opportunities in the 15th century, abandoning their lesser temples in Siam, which is now Thailand.
