Young elephant escapes from reservoir after breaking in to earn himself sneaky dip in Namibia
Footage shows the young bull elephant as he attempts to climb out of the reservoir enclosure and get back to his herd, he even throws the photographer a side glance of a naughty elephant caught in the act.
The images and video were captured by photographer Sharlene Cathro from South Africa, in Etosha National Park, Namibia.
Sharlene was thrilled to capture such an unusual sight, which she believed was a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
“We arrived at a waterhole to find a herd of elephants drinking casually, on closer inspection we discovered a young male that was not with the herd but had somehow managed to get into the reservoir enclosure,” said Sharlene.
“We checked around to see where he had broken the fence or wall but could not find any so we decided to sit and watch him to see exactly what was happening. The video says it all.
“Catching a naughty young male in the act of doing something he knows he should not be doing and also trying to figure out how he did it, I love a mystery.
“I felt like I had solved the mystery of the year.
“This was a first for us, we know that elephants always try to get to the cleanest and freshest source of water, but this young one had taken a whole step or climb further.
“I have had many comments saying he was not happy with being caught in the act of being naughty.”
