STORYLINE:

A multi-layer three-dimensional observation platform has been completed in China's Tianjin, said project contractor Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. on Sunday.

The observation platform will provide data services for China's marine climate evolution research, marine disaster warning and forecasting, national marine rights and interests protection, and marine economic development, etc.

The main structure of the observation platform includes a jacket, block, and observation tower, with a total design weight of 4,530 tons.

The highest point of the tower is about 103 meters from the sea level. After completion, it will carry at least 66 kinds and 195 sets of observation equipment.

The observation platform can realize all-round, comprehensive, long-term real-time high-resolution stereoscopic observation of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere, which is equivalent to a super-large "scanner" to comprehensively monitor the comprehensive marine environmental information.

The construction of the project platform took five months, and unlike the previous horizontal construction of the jacket, the innovative use of upper and lower sections and vertical construction mode of the jacket can save the amount of steel used in the water injection system and reduce the offshore installation period.
