Relentless rainfall on Monday (September 11th) continued to lash the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Persistent rainfall for the previous few days has left many residential areas in the Barabanki district completely waterlogged. Footage captured by a local journalist shows residents being rescued from makeshift shelters in the city.

To address this alarming situation, authorities have declared school holidays to ensure the safety of students and residents.
On water logging due to heavy rainfall, Barabanki DM Avinash Kumar says, "There are heavy rains in the urban area of Barabanki district... It has rained around 100 mm since last night. There is waterlogged in many residential areas. We have called an SDRF unit and a PAC flood unit. We have deployed 4 boats at different places... The first and second floors of schools have been opened for the rescued people... In Jasmanda, a wall collapsed killing two children... We will provide them with ex gratia after the flood emergency is managed

The weather department has issued multiple warnings regarding heavy rainfall and has even raised concerns about the possibility of lightning strikes. Meteorologists attribute this persistent weather pattern to the formation of a new cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. As a result, it is predicted the challenging weather conditions will persist for the next seven days.
