The Orange Race, Totnes
This annual race was started in 1978 and commemorates the visit to Totnes by Francis Drake who was seeking a meeting with a politician. He asked a small boy for directions. The lad happened to be the son of the man Drake was seeking - and was rewarded for his assistance by being given an orange that Drake was carrying.
